EurEau’s recommendations for the European Commission’s Call for Evidence on the future digitalisation of the water sector are published. We support digitalisation as a tool to improve efficiency, resilience and infrastructure management, but stress that it must remain focused on the core mission of water services.
We call for a practical, proportionate and risk-based approach, with a focus on cybersecurity, data governance, interoperability, skills and appropriate funding. We caution against new binding digitalisation requirements and emphasise that technology should complement, not replace, investment in physical infrastructure and wider water policy measures.
