CIRSEAU Project Launches to Drive a Circular Water Economy

The CIRSEAU project officially began on 1 September 2024, with its kick-off meeting held in Brussels on 11 December. This initiative, funded by the European Research Executive Agency, aims to build a collaborative ecosystem to advance the circular water economy across Europe.

CIRSEAU expands a cluster of five EU-funded projects: WaterSmart, REWAISE, ULTIMATE, WIDER UPTAKE, and WATER-MINING - that have been championing water reuse, efficiency, and sustainability since 2020. Collectively, these projects have utilised 35 demonstration sites to promote innovation in water management, releasing policy briefs and sharing knowledge at events.

With a €2 million budget over three years, CIRSEAU will focus on market uptake, stakeholder engagement, and skills development. By addressing social barriers and creating End of Waste criteria, the project will align with EU policies, aiming for zero pollution and climate neutrality by 2050.

Coordinated by Aqualia, the consortium includes 10 partners from six countries, ensuring multidisciplinary expertise and impactful collaboration. CIRSEAU will also collaborate with sister project BOOST-IN and other EU initiatives to create a more circular and water-smart Europe.
