Priority substances: Water sector urges MEPs to start trilogues
EurEau together with Aqua Publica Europea, the European Water Association (EWA), European Environmental Bureau (EEB) and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) have sent MEPs a letter calling for a start to trilogue negotiations on the update of priority substance lists for surface water and groundwater. Both the Parliament and the Council have adopted their position on the proposed joint revision of the Groundwater Directive and Environmental Quality Standards Directive, along with parts of the Water Framework Directive but MEPs have yet to adopt a mandate to move on to the next stage of the legislative process.
This delay threatens to hold up adoption of the new rules until it is too late to apply them to the next round of River Basin Management Plans, effectively postponing implementation by six years. You can find more details in the letter attached below.
