Conclusion reached on new rules for urban wastewater
EurEau notes the news coming from the conclusion of today’s trilogue on the UWWTD (Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive).
We recognise the efforts made by the co-legislators to reach an agreement that will conclude the future UWWTD before the EU elections.
We welcome that the scope of the UWWTD will not address agglomerations under 1.000 p.e.
We recognise that the implementation of EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility), and a very positive move. However, we regret that this 80% does not consider the affordability of essential services such as water services.
We support the flexible approach to reach the targets on energy neutrality.
We thank the institutions and our members for their efforts to better protect the environment and consumers. This Directive, if properly implemented, will go some way to doing this.
