Water and the SDGs

Delivering a sustainable future is one of the UN’s - and our - key goals

Our plenary conference during our 2017 annual congress is on the theme of ‘The implementation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals in Europe: the role of the water services in delivering sustainable cities’. Keynote speakers are Peter Koefoed Bjørnsen, Director UNEP-DHI partnership; Marta Moran-Abat from the European Commission and José Maria Villanueva del Casal, Technical Director at the CABB. We will publish our report on how the European water sector contributes to delivering a sustainable future for all before the end of the year.

“Water is invaluable. Without a reliable supply of clean drinking water or the safe return of wastewater to the environment, we cannot function as a society” said Bruno Tisserand, EurEau President speaking at the congress in Bilbao.

“If we are to meet the SDGs, we need to be able to assure access to water. It is key to providing health, political and economic stability, equality and education. We have played our role for a long time, and we will continue to do so”.

EurEau’s 130 individual members will also discuss EU water policy, which will be evaluated and reviewed by the EU institutions in the coming years. It is an opportunity for member associations to make their voice heard on how to better protect consumers and the environment.

The EurEau congress is hosted by AEAS  and Consorcio de Aguas Bilbao Bizkaia (CABB).
