Yesterday, 25 January 2012, the EP Water Group hold a meeting in the Tirol representation in Brussels on the Danish priorities for the water sector. Ms Ida Auken, Danish Minister of Environment, presented the main priorities the presidency will put forwards in the next six months in front of 115 participants.
The first week of November EUREAU met at the International Water Week in Amsterdam to discuss about the BluePrint. Almost 100 experts from all over Europe came to Amsterdam RAI to discuss with the Mr. Peter Gammeltoft, from the European Commission (EC), about the vision of EUREAU on the BluePrint.
EUREAU is concerned about the potential climate change impact on water services. We would wish for improved coordination of European policy, better communication with stakeholders and more research on adaptation opportunities.
EUREAU Members are, in many towns and cities, responsible for the construction and maintenance of wastewater collection systems. Many existing systems are designed to receive both foul sewage and surface water following rainfall and combined sewer overflows must be provided to prevent overloading of sewers and wastewater treatment plants. There are thousands of CSOs in Europe and we recognise that they must be properly protected by upstream measures and managed to prevent flooding and minimise adverse impact on the environment and public health.
