Response on critical infrastructures

The European water sector believes that it is a fundamental requirement to provide security protection and resilience to vital drinking water supply infrastructure and installations. Much of this protection and resilience is already in place. However, the European water sector takes a clear interest in the debate on the European Programme for Critical Infrastructure Protection.

The European water sector acknowledges the importance of the Green Paper and its proposals for actions. The European water sector advocates a more appropriate consideration of the different and more regional nature of drinking water supplies compared with other utility services, such as gas and electricity.

The European water sector is keen to participate in further discussions with the European Commission on critical infrastructure protection and offers its experience to the Commission in dealing with these issues.
