Climate Change and Mitigation
Climate change is already affecting the water sector from its source material to its customer base and its recycling routes. The sector is both impacted by and contributes to climate change. Water is one of the most important enablers of economic and social development and public health, and as such needs to be resilient to climate change and shifting weather patterns. There are also opportunities for the sector to contribute to a reduction in carbon emissions through improved energy efficiency, the use and the generation of renewable energy, smart use of chemicals and raw materials, demand management and influencing reduced emissions through the provision of sustainable water services and its supply chain. EUREAU members accept and are willing to play their full part alongside other sectors in tackling mitigation and adaptation to climate change.
